Dana B. Mehlman elected to U. of I. Civil and Environmental Engineering Alumni Association Board of Directors
Dana Mehlman, a Chicago-based attorney in the Environmental Law Practice of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) Alumni Association. Her four-year term began at the Board meeting held on UIUC campus in Urbana, Illinois, on Friday, September 14.
Ms. Mehlman has been a member of the CEE Alumni Association since 1999. From 2003 through 2007, while living in Atlanta, she served as President of the Atlanta Illini, the University’s local alumni affiliate, where she was the primary point of contact between more than 3,000 alumni of the University of Illinois residing in the Atlanta metropolitan area and the University.
The mission of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Civil and Environmental Engineering Alumni Association is to support the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering faculty, staff, students, and alumni and to inspire lifelong loyalty and pride among alumni and friends by developing and enhancing their continued relationship with the Department. To fulfill its mission, the Association has a Board of Directors to provide advice and counsel to the Department, to recognize distinguished alumni, to foster collegial alumni relations and alumni support of the Department, to mentor students and facilitate their entry into the civil and environmental engineering profession, to represent the Department’s activities conducted by the Alumni Association, and to support the Department’s public outreach activities.
Ms. Mehlman focuses her practice in environmental law. She counsels and advises clients on environmental compliance, policy, and operations; develops permitting applications; and handles enforcement actions. In addition, Ms. Mehlman devotes a portion of her practice to the defense of design professionals in claims involving various aspects of design and construction. Ms. Mehlman brings to her practice a substantial amount of experience as an environmental engineering consultant. She is a licensed Professional Engineer in both Illinois and Georgia.
Ms. Mehlman earned her J.D., cum laude, with a certificate in environmental and land use law, from the University of Florida – Levin College of Law in 2010. She received her M.S. and her B.S. in 2001 and 1999, respectively, from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
