Illinois Supreme Court appoints Stanton as circuit judge in the third subcircuit of Cook County
Justice Mary Jane Theis and the Illinois Supreme Court have announced the appointment of Patrick T. Stanton as a Cook County Circuit Judge in the 3rd Subcircuit.
Mr. Stanton was appointed to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Maureen Delehanty.
The appointment takes effect Jan. 1, 2017 and will conclude on Dec. 3, 2018, when the position will be filled by the 2018 General Election.
"I am humbled and honored to be given this opportunity to serve the people of Cook County," Mr. Stanton said. "I am grateful to the Supreme Court, and especially Justice Theis, for their confidence in me."
Justice Theis recommended Mr. Stanton's appointment after candidates were reviewed by bar associations and a special judicial screening committee. Mr. Stanton received qualified or recommended ratings from a dozen bar groups. The special judicial screening committee was established by Justice Theis in 2013 and is co-chaired by retired U.S. District Court Judge Wayne R. Andersen and retired Illinois Appellate Court Judge Michael J. Gallagher.
Mr. Stanton is currently a Member with Dykema Gossett, PLLC. He has over 20 years’ experience handling a wide variety of commercial disputes. He serves as Dykema's Lateral Recruiting Partner. He was leader of the firm's Business Litigation Practice Group and is the former Office Managing Member of the firm's Chicago office.
Mr. Stanton graduated cum laude from Loyola University School of Law in Chicago where he was a Senior Member of the Loyola University Chicago Law Journal. He received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Notre Dame. He served as Law Clerk to the Honorable George M. Marovich of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois from 1995-1996.
He has numerous professional licenses including his admission to the Illinois Bar in 1993, admission to the Supreme Court of Illinois, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
Mr. Stanton also is affiliated with several professional organizations including the Chicago American Inn of Court, the Chicago Bar Association and the American Bar Association. He has served as Pro-Bono Counsel on asylum matters for the National Immigrant Justice Center.
He resides in Chicago with his wife, Karen, and their five children.
