Judge John L. Davis 1942-2021
John Loyle Davis, 78, of Decatur, passed away Sunday, February 21, 2021, at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield.
John was born May 25, 1942, in St. Louis, MO, the son of Herman Loyle and Beatrice Ruth (Hill) Davis. He graduated MacArthur High School, Millikin University and St. Louis University School of Law. John worked as private practice attorney before being appointed Associate Judge. John was then elected as a Circuit Judge spending a total of 28 years on the bench. After retiring from the bench, John continued to practice law until his death.
John was a member of the Decatur Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association, Rotary Club of Decatur, Holy Family Catholic Church and Holy Family Parish Knights of Columbus Council #17241. He loved to golf, travel, and camp. He married Marie Radtke on July 8, 2005 in Clinton, IL.
John is survived by his wife, Marie of Decatur; children: Lara (Jessica) Davis of Heyworth, Kirsten (Robert) Perkins of Mt. Zion, Brandon (Nicole) Neilson of FL, and Christopher (Ashley) Neilson of CT; eleven grandchildren; sister, Barbara Ellerbrook of KY; nieces: Jennifer Lynn Mortland and Kerrie Lynn Hudson of KY; many other relatives and friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be Saturday, February 27, 2021 from 12 p.m. until the service time of 2 p.m. at the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Cancer Care Specialists of IL, Cancer Center of Decatur, 210 W. McKinley Ave., Decatur, IL 62526.
