The Illinois Supreme Court has appointed Drinda L. OConnor of Springfield to serve as a Commissioner of the Attorney Registration & Disciplinary Commission (A.R.D.C.) effective on January 1, 2021, and expiring on December 31, 2023. The A.R.D.C. is the Supreme Court agency that investigates allegations of lawyer wrongdoing in Illinois.

The Attorney Registration & Disciplinary Commission (ARDC) of the Supreme Court of Illinois, the entity that investigates and prosecutes attorney misconduct, recognizes its responsibility to work towards making sure that the legal system functions fairly for all citizens. To that end, the ARDC has formed the Equal Justice Rules Committee (EJRC) to examine the ethical rules that govern Illinois attorneys’ conduct with the goal of determining whether amendment of those rules is necessary to enhance attorneys’ rights and refocus attorneys’ duties to act in a manner that supports the equal and fair application of justice.
The Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission (ARDC) is hosting an online town hall event from 11 a.m. until noon on Monday, July 20, to discuss its Intermediary Connecting Services Proposal.
The proposal, which was published in February, is aimed to increase opportunities for lawyers to connect with clients and market their services to the Illinois public, while also fashioning a regulatory framework for connecting services.

Given the ARDC’s role and responsibility in the legal system, it is important for us to reinforce our commitment to addressing injustice by actively combatting the evils of racism and social inequity. These times of racial and civil unrest have caused us to think deeply and differently about how we may more effectively meet our obligation to combat racism and support justice for all, which we publicly share with hope and commitment.

The Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission (ARDC), the administrative agency that regulates licensed Illinois lawyers, has filed its year 2019 Annual Report with the Supreme Court of Illinois. The report was released to the public this morning when a copy was posted on the ARDC website.

The 2019 Annual Report is dedicated to Illinois Supreme Court Justice Lloyd E. Karmeier, who for 15 years has served as the Court’s liaison officer to the ARDC and who has had an outstanding, extensive, and positive impact upon the organization. The report includes a retrospective of Justice Karmeier’s distinguished career.

The changes are the result of months of planning and are spurred by various forces, including the broadening of the ARDC’s mission to include education and outreach, shifts in discipline caseloads, and retirements from the ARDC’s workforce.
