Please join us at the 7th Annual Bean Bag Tournament and show your support for the IBF/ YLD Children’s Assistance Fund. The Children’s Assistance Fund has distributed grants in excess of $285,000 over the past fifteen years, due to the widespread support of our donors and participation in events like the Bean Bag Tournament.
Championship team will receive $350 and runner up will walk away with $150!
All teams must be registered by Tuesday, March 4, 2014. Wristbands can also be purchased online through March 4, or purchased at the door the day of the event. No refunds will be given after March 4.

Illinois Lt. Gov. Sheila Simon will make a guest appearance at the IBF’s Lawyers Rock Legends on Thursday, February 27, 2014. Lt. Gov. Simon will perform with the 5-thirty band; which consists of lawyers John Locallo, Carlos Vera, and Thomas Battista among other talented musicians. Lawyers Rock Legends is the IBF’s second largest fundraiser of the year. Proceeds from this event go towards helping lawyers in need and ensuring access to justice. Tickets for the event are still available. Doors open at 6:30 pm.

Joan C. Williams, a law professor and prolific author on work and family issues, will be the keynote speaker at a “Celebration of Women in the Profession” luncheon hosted by the Illinois State Bar Association on Thursday, March 13, at the Union League Club, 65 W. Jackson, Chicago.
James (Jay) R. Shultz concentrates his practice on toxic tort matters, with an emphasis on defending industrial manufacturers facing asbestos-related claims. Previously, Mr. Shultz worked as an associate with a general practice firm, litigating commercial, employment, product liability, and personal injury claims on behalf of Illinois businesses and individuals. Mr. Shultz also has considerable experience negotiating and executing various commercial and real estate transactions. He holds a J.D. from University of Illinois College of Law (2010) and a B.S. from University of Illinois (2006). Mr. Shultz is active in the Illinois State Bar Association, and serves on the general practice, solo, and small firm section counsel.

Once again, this premier conference features annual updates on agency activities and priorities in Illinois and the Region presented by top representatives from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, the Illinois Attorney General’s Office, and other state agencies.
The ISBA Young Lawyers Division hosted its third Professional Development Luncheon on Feb. 11 at the Chicago Regional Office. This luncheon, focused on alternative careers for attorneys, featured (from left) speakers Tarek Fadel of AdaptiGroup LLC, Michael Negron of the Chicago Mayor’s Office and Elizabeth Ellis Simek of the City of Chicago Law Department, ISBA President Paula H. Holderman, YLD Chair and ISBA Board member Jean Kenol, program organizer George Schoenbeck and program moderator Heather Pfeffer.
McDonald has a long history with ATG and was instrumental in its early growth and success. His efforts in the late 1960s and 1970s, starting as executive vice president, then president, ensured that founder Stanley Balbach’s vision took root.
“Ward’s 45-year history with ATG provides the board, staff and ATG members with a chair who has a great perspective on who we are, where we have been, and where we are going,” said current ATG president, Peter Birnbaum.
After leaving ATG in 1983 to pursue a private practice, McDonald continued to serve on the ATG board. As 2014 chair, McDonald will preside over board meetings, have a seat on key ATG committees, and interact with ATG’s executive staff on long-range planning and financial decisions that affect the company.
