You are invited to represent ISBA alongside the Standing Committee on Marketing & Communications by marching in the 2018 St. Patrick’s Day in Chicago on March 17. An annual tradition for ISBA, walking alongside our mobile billboard is a great opportunity to represent the association and our lawyers to the public.
The parade begins at noon at Balbo and Columbus, and proceeds north on Columbus. Members interested in participating can meet at the ISBA Chicago Regional Office, 20 S. Clark Street, Ste. 900 in the morning to walk to the parade as a group at 11:30 a.m. or meet at the parade site. Interested participants are encouraged to bring family and friends. The ISBA parade number will be released the week of the parade.

The West Central Municipal Conference serves as the Council of Government representing 51 entities in West Cook County and eastern DuPage County. The Conference, through its membership, seeks to improve the quality of life for residents and foster a sense of regionalism.
Get ready to rock with the Illinois Bar Foundation at Lawyers Rock 2018, presented by Hassakis & Hassakis, P.C., on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at Lincoln Hall in Chicago. This concert fundraiser features bands comprised of local lawyers, rocking out to benefit the IBF and the Foundation’s M. Denny Hassakis Fund, which supports juvenile justice causes throughout the state. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the show begins at 6:00 p.m.

The circuit judges of the Eighteenth Judicial Circuit, DuPage County, Illinois, have appointed Kavita Athanikar to the position of association judge. Ms. Athanikar fills the vacancy created by the appointment of Hon. Jeffrey S. MacKay to circuit judge.
The Illinois Supreme Court handed down two opinions today, Friday, Feb. 16. The court considered whether the Cook County Circuit Court erroneously entered a finding of a good-faith settlement agreement under the Joint Tortfeasor Act in a personal injury action arising out of a car accident in Antonicelli v. Rodriguez. In People ex rel. Hartrich v. 2010 Harley-Davidson, the court addresses the application of the excessive fines clause of the Eighth Amendment to the civil forfeiture of personal property. Leading appellate attorneys Karen DeGrand and Joanne Driscoll summarize the cases below.
The Young Lawyers Division hosted ISBA Day at the ISBA Mutual office on Thursday, Feb. 15. A panel of young lawyers spoke to law students about how to prepare for and what to expect from life after law school. Topics covered included the most valuable skill they learned in law school, the most difficult workplace situation panelists have encountered as lawyers, how to handle the stress of your first law firm job, finding work-life balance, and more. The discussion opened up to audience questions at the end for a more interactive discussion.
