Don’t miss ISBA’s 6th Annual Abraham Lincoln’s Legal Legacy seminar as we study Lincoln’s actions as a lawyer and President in facing threats to democracy in America and the United States Constitution. The program takes place in Springfield, which was the center of Lincoln’s law practice and three partnerships, and where Lincoln developed his understanding of the democratic process and his interpretation of the Constitution. It was the venue for many of Lincoln’s significant trials, including the “Peachy” Quinn Harrison murder trial. Join us for this in-depth look at how Lincoln’s view of the Constitution changed over time and evolved into the use of his Presidential War Powers to advance the case of Union and emancipation.

Strategic corporate transactions that involve hospitals and health systems are subject to a plethora of federal, state, and local laws and regulations. The high level of governmental oversight requires that hospital/health system transactions have separate signings and closings to allow sufficient time for the parties to accommodate the many filings, notices, consents, and other governmental approvals that are necessary to close the transaction as well as operate the business effectively after closing. This presentation highlights the “big ticket” federal and Illinois laws and regulations that you need to know to be an effective hospital/health system deal lawyer as well as best practices for efficiently getting over the closing finish line.

This online program will be conducted in Microsoft Teams to help assist in the learning process.

Fall Semester Starts September 10! Improve your trial skills in this “learn-by-doing” program that covers all phases of trial work from both a plaintiff/prosecutor and defendant’s viewpoint, in both civil and criminal cases. Through this course, you will learn and practice new trial techniques that are most effective and consistent with the Illinois Rules of Evidence and the Federal Rules of Evidence. Each session is audio-video taped so you can see and hear the improvements in your voice, manner, and trial technique. The course has been proven to be of value whether your practice includes trying jury and non-jury cases, administrative hearings, arbitrations, or even mediations.
