Justice Lisa Holder White of the Supreme Court of Illinois has announced the formation of a judicial screening committee for the Eighth Judicial Circuit.
As part of continuing its mission to capture accurate and consistent court data from all 102 counties, the Illinois Supreme Court announced today the creation of a Data Task Force (Task Force). Data is crucial to state courts for effective case management, court performance, allocating resources efficiently, making informed decisions, understanding the communities the courts serve, and maintaining public trust through transparency and accountability.
Justice David K. Overstreet of the Supreme Court of Illinois has begun an application process for two resident circuit judge vacancies in the 2nd Judicial Circuit in Wayne and Edwards counties.
A vacancy for Resident Circuit Judge, Wayne County, was created by the resignation of Judge Michael J. Molt, effective November 30, 2024. A vacancy for Resident Circuit Judge, Edwards County, was created by the death of Judge Michael J. Valentine on November 5, 2024. Appointment to both vacancies go through December 7, 2026, following the 2026 November general election.
Chief Justice Mary Jane Theis of the Supreme Court of Illinois has begun an application process for a Cook County judicial vacancy in the 11th Subcircuit.
The 11th Subcircuit vacancy was created by the retirement of Judge Mary Colleen Roberts. The appointed individual will serve a term through December 7, 2026.
Under the Illinois Constitution, judicial vacancies are filled by Supreme Court appointment. The application process will lead to the final Court approval. Applicants will undergo an evaluation and screening process.
Supreme Court Justice Joy V. Cunningham has begun an application process for three judicial vacancies in the subcircuits of Cook County.
The subcircuit vacancies are for the seats of Judge Thomas W. Murphy (3rd Subcircuit, vacant effective July 3, 2024), Judge Callie L. Baird (16th Subcircuit, vacant effective April 16, 2024), and Judge John A. Fairman (19th Subcircuit, vacant effective April 29, 2024).
The Illinois Supreme Court announced the filing of lawyer disciplinary orders on November 20, 2024. Sanctions were imposed because the lawyers engaged in professional misconduct by violating state ethics law.
The Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Access to Justice (ATJ Commission) announced today the winners of two awards, the Jeffrey D. Colman Access to Justice Award and The Hon. Thomas L. Kilbride (Ret.) Judicial Access to Justice Award. The 2024 recipients are Tiffany Schicker and Judge Thomas More Donnelly. These awards are designed to recognize and celebrate exceptional contributions to increasing access to the court system by improving the experience of litigants.
The Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts (AOIC) announced today that the Putnam, Marshall, Stark County Probation District was awarded a $5,000 grant from the Foundation for Rural Services-Community Service Grants Program. The Foundation for Rural Services (FRS) is a nonprofit organization that works with the NTCA Rural Broadband Association to sustain and enhance the quality of life in rural America.

Chief Justice Mary Jane Theis and the Illinois Supreme Court have announced that D’Anthony (Tony) Thedford has been appointed as an At-Large Judge for the Circuit Court of Cook County.
Mr. Thedford is being appointed to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Paul Karkula. Mr. Tedford’s appointment is effective December 2, 2024, and will continue through Dec. 7, 2026.
