    Joint Midyear Meeting Online Registration Now Open

    The Illinois State Bar Association and the Illinois Judges Association are pleased to invite you to celebrate the profession and consider issues of mutual interest to the bench and bar during our annual Midyear Meeting, which will be held Dec. 6-8, 2018, at the Palmer House Hilton Hotel in Chicago. 

    Hotel reservations may be made through Saturday, Nov. 3. To make reservations, please contact the Palmer House Hilton directly at 877.865.5321 and identify yourself as an ISBA convention attendee.

    The online registration deadline is Friday, Nov. 30.

    Reserve Your Room for the 2018 Midyear Meeting in Chicago

    The 2018 Joint Meeting/Midyear Meeting will be held Dec. 6 – 8 at the Palmer House Hilton, 17 E. Monroe St. in Chicago. It will conclude with a meeting of the ISBA Assembly on Saturday, Dec. 8.

    In line with ISBA President James McCluskey's presidential theme of health and wellness, the ISBA will host a special CLE seminar on the subject and offer physical fitness activities throughout the duration of the meeting, including spin and cross-fit classes, meditation, and Pilates sessions.

    New and Upgraded Fellows of the Illinois Bar Foundation

    The Fellows of the Illinois Bar Foundation thank our latest new and upgraded Fellows for their commitment to supporting the mission of the Illinois Bar Foundation. Funds from the Fellows program make a direct impact on the lives of those in need, including our colleagues and their families during times of crisis and those who cannot otherwise afford legal representation. Fellows’ pledges are payable over 10 years and start at just $100 per year, or less than $9 per month.

    Chicago Police Commander Receives Law Enforcement Award from Illinois State Bar Association

    Chicago Police Commander Thomas Lemmer received a Law Enforcement Award from the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA) on September 28 at the Chicago Police Department Headquarters. ISBA President James McCluskey presented the award.

    The Law Enforcement Award recognizes sworn law enforcement officers for conduct that promotes justice and to distinguish those individuals whose service to the public brings honor and respect to the entire criminal justice system.

    Campaign Season for ISBA Election Underway

    Campaign season for the 2019 Illinois State Bar Association election begins today, October 1, for open leadership seats of third vice president and one seat each for the following Board of Governors seats: Area 2 (Circuits 17, 19 and 22), Area 4 (Circuits 10, 14 and 15), Area 5 (Circuits 5, 6 and 11), Area 7 (Circuits 1, 2 and 4), Under Age 37 – Cook County, and Under Age 37 Outside Cook County (Circuits 1-23). There are also 45 open seat

    Sonni Choi Williams, a former member of the ISBA Board of Governors, was sworn in as a member of the Korean American Bar Association of Chicago’s Board on Sept. 21.

    Franklin County Courthouse Receives Famous Lincoln Portrait

    A high-quality reproduction of a famous Abraham Lincoln photograph was presented during a ceremony Friday, August 24, 2018, at the Franklin County Courthouse.

    The photograph was taken in Springfield by well-known photographer Alexander Hesler on June 3, 1860, for Lincoln’s 1860 presidential campaign. Printed on canvas, the image of the beardless Lincoln is encased in a richly stained wood frame and measures 30-inches wide by 40-inches tall.

    Illinois Bar Foundation Elects New Officers for 2018-19

    The Illinois Bar Foundation (IBF) has elected its officers for the organization’s 2017-18 fiscal year. They are: Timothy W. Kelly, principal of Kelly Law Offices, president; Deane B. Brown, partner at Hughes Socol Piers Resnik Dym, first vice president; and William A. Peithmann, principal of The Peithmann Law Office, second vice president. Lisa M. Nyuli, partner at Ariano Hardy Ritt Nyuli Richmond Lytle & Goettel P.C. was elected third vice president. Mark L. Karno, principal of Mark L. Karno & Associates, L.L.C., was elected as treasurer and Lauren Tuckey Murray, of counsel at Bellows Law Group, was elected as secretary.
