In a groundbreaking innovation to aid attorneys in achieving Minimum Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) compliance, the Illinois Supreme Court announced today that Illinois now has an online MCLE transcript system. With this system in place, the MCLE Board will report compliance for attorneys once their online transcript reflects their MCLE compliance.
The Illinois Supreme Court has announced that effective January 1, 2016, Quincy attorney James A. Rapp will chair the Supreme Court’s Minimum Continuing Legal Education Board.
The Supreme Court adopted minimum continuing education requirements for Illinois attorneys in September, 2005. The board is composed of nine members including attorneys, judges, and a non-lawyer member. Rapp is a charter member of the governing board and has served as Vice Chair and on the board’s rules and regulations as well as finance committees. There are approximately 106,000 attorneys in Illinois subject to the requirements.
Former ISBA Board member Michele M. Jochner, a partner with Schiller DuCanto & Fleck, has been reappointed to the Minimum Continuing Legal Education Board for a term expiring Dec. 31, 2018. Jochner will rise from the position of Secretary to the position of Vice-Chair. This change is effective Jan. 1, 2016.
Jochner previously served as a judicial law clerk to two Justices of the Illinois Supreme Court: the late Hon. Mary Ann G. McMorrow and the Hon. Charles E. Freeman.
The Illinois Supreme Court on Thursday announced changes to a rule that will require attorneys to go online to report their compliance with Mandatory Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) requirements.
Under Amended Supreme Court Rule 796, the agency that oversees the Court's MCLE program will also be able to send notices electronically. The amended rule takes effect February 1, 2016.
The changes mark the latest example of the Court's ongoing efforts to utilize technology to make the judicial process and legal profession more efficient.
