The Honorable Judge William F. Homer 89 passed away on August 4, 2020, in Tampa, Florida. Judge Homer was born on September 19, 1930, in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania to Frederick Homer and Helen (Kirchhoff) Homer.
Glenn E. Benckendorf, 90, of Punta Gorda, Florida, formerly of Morton, Illinois, went to be with our Lord on August 5, 2020. Born August 25, 1929, in Streator, Illinois, to Lloyd and Mary Benckendorf, he grew up during the Great Depression and World War II. As a youth, Glenn worked in brick kilns, in the family diner, and as a railroad truck laborer.

John A. Kelly, Jr. (Jack) passed away peacefully at age 88 in Naples, Florida. Jack was a devoted husband, a wonderful father and an adored grandfather and is sorely missed. Jack's life was characterized by determination, a zest for life and a strong connection to his family. Jack grew up in Oak Park, Illinois, the eldest of seven children and relished that role throughout his life. He loved school and he loved sport. Jack's track career started at Fenwick High School in Oak Park, and upon graduation he was awarded a track scholarship to attend Drake University. From 1949 -1951, Jack ran on both the one mile and half-mile relay teams and set records at the Drake Relays. He entertained the family with stories about driving around the country to attend track meets, the many victories and great times he had with his fellow team members. His storytelling brought these experiences to life for all of us to enjoy with him. Jack completed his BA at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and then went on to earn his MBA and JD in 1956.
Philip Henry Ward Jr. a long time resident of Sterling, joined his wife of 65 years, Marilyn, after passing peacefully at his winter home in Jupiter, Florida on July 6, 2020, at the age of 88.
Pat was born in Chicago, Illinois on August 14, 1935, and, he was proud to say, the same day as the enactment of the Social Security Act. He married Diane Lopez at St. Clements Church in Chicago on October 2, 1976.
Pat was the oldest of the six children of Patrick and Nancy (Bracken) Hughes. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Mickey, Frank, Bill, and sister Kathleen, and his beloved cats.
Greensfelder, Hemker & Gale, P.C., has announced the creation of a new scholarship fund with Washington University in St. Louis School of Law to support diverse law students, in recognition of the first anniversary of the passing of former Greensfelder President and CEO Tim Thornton.
The Greensfelder Diversity Scholarship in Memory of Timothy R. Thornton will be awarded beginning in fall 2020. Each year, a student at Washington University in St. Louis School of Law who has demonstrated a commitment to diversity will be selected as the recipient. After awarding the initial $10,000 scholarship this fall, Greensfelder will fund an endowment to allow for the continuation of the scholarship annually in alignment with the firm’s commitment to advancing diversity in the legal profession and creating opportunities for individuals in the firm’s communities.
William Charles Ives, age 87, a native of Aledo, Illinois, formerly of Hinsdale, Illinois, and residing in Chapel Hill, N.C., died peacefully on May 30, 2020, surrounded by family.
