Vernon. Illinois Supreme Court Justice David K. Overstreet presided over the ceremony. Illinois State Bar Association Secretary Wesley Gozia spoke at the ceremony.

The Illinois Supreme Court has received and approved the report and recommendations from the Pretrial Release Appeals Task Force (Task Force). The Task Force was convened to thoroughly review pretrial release appeals and their impact on the caseloads in each of the five Appellate Court districts. The report notes the staggering increase in caseloads the appellate courts have faced since the implementation of the Pretrial Fairness Act (PFA) began on Sept. 18, 2023, going from an average of 17 annual bond appeals to a projected 4,557 appeals under the PFA – a 268-fold increase.

Justice David K. Overstreet and the Illinois Supreme Court announced the swearing-in of new Fifth District Appellate Court Clerk Cortney E. Kuntze at a ceremony held in the Fifth District Appellate Court Courtroom in Mount Vernon.
New attorneys were admitted to practice in Illinois on Nov. 9 at six separate locations across the state. The Fifth Judicial District was split into two sessions. The first ceremony at 9:00 a.m. was held at the Southern Illinois University School of Law Auditorium, 1150 Douglas Drive, in Carbondale. Illinois State Bar Association 3rd Vice President Perry Browder spoke at the ceremony.
