    U.S. Supreme Court to swear-in 45 ISBA members

Supreme Court Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Elana Kagan have agreed to meet with the new admittees and their families after the ceremony. A reception sponsored by GEICO Insurance and the ISBA was held on Sunday night at the historic Willard InterContinental Hotel. Click here to view a photo gallery from the reception.

    Chicago native John Paul Stevens announces his retirement from Supreme Court
    Justice John Paul Stevens announced today that he will retire from the U.S. Supreme Court, 11 days ahead of his 90th birthday. Stevens, a graduate of Northwestern University Law School, will step down after the court finishes its work this summer, in late June or early July.     Panel of experts recap 2008-2009 Supreme Court term
    The American Constitution Society held its "Sixth Annual Supreme Court Term in Review" Thursday afternoon at Mayer Brown LLP, 71 S. Wacker, Chicago. The panel consisted of Jeffrey W. Sarles, Partner, Mayer Brown; Gary Feinerman, Partner, Sidley Austin LLP and former Solicitor General of Illinois; Colleen Connell, Executive Director of the ACLU of Illinois; and Steven J. Heyman, Professor, Chicago-Kent College of Law. The panel was moderated by Steve Sanders, an Associate at Mayor Brown.

    Supreme Court rules on voting rights, special ed, dumping dredge
    The Supreme Court ruled today that Texas is entitled to a Voting Rights Act exemption, parents who remove their disabled children from public school can be reimbursed for a private education, and the Army Corps of Engineers can issue permits for dumping dredge into waterways.     ISBA group visits U.S. Supreme Court
    A group of 38 ISBA members were admitted to the U.S. Supreme Court on June 1. Following the ceremony, ISBA President Jack Carey presented the Court with a replica of the Abraham Lincoln bust the ISBA commissioned in honor of the Lincoln bicentennial. The original bust was presented to the Illinois Supreme Court on Jan. 12. Justice John Paul Stephens accepted the replica bust on behalf of the court. Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg also visited with the ISBA group. View our photo gallery of the Supreme Court visit.
