    Illinois Lawyer Finder makes over 750 referrals in July
    The Illinois State Bar Association’s Lawyer Finder Service provides referrals to local lawyers Mondays through Fridays. The Service makes referrals in a number of areas of law. For the month of July 2016, there were 772 referrals. ISBA helped people in need of legal services find lawyers in the following areas:

    Justice Kilbride announces vacancy in 14th Circuit
    Illinois Supreme Court Justice Thomas L. Kilbride has announced an application process for appointment to a resident Circuit Court vacancy in Whiteside County in the Fourteenth Judicial Circuit. The vacancy will be created by Circuit Judge John L. Hauptman's retirement, effective December 5, 2016. Judge Hauptman has been a judge since 1997, and currently serves as the resident judge at the Whiteside County Courthouse in Morrison.

    DuPage County accepting applications for associate judge vacancy
    Chief Judge Kathryn E. Creswell announced that the Circuit Judges are accepting applications to fill a vacancy for the Office of Associate Judge of the 18th Judicial Circuit Court of Illinois, DuPage County. This vacancy is a result of the resignation of Associate Judge Mary E. O’Connor. Any attorney, who is a United States citizen, is licensed to practice law in the state of Illinois, and is a resident of the 18th Judicial Circuit may apply by electronically filing a signed application with the Director of the Administrative Office of Illinois Courts on the form prescribed and furnished by the Director. The instructions for submitting an application electronically are available on the Supreme Court’s website: www.illinoiscourts.gov. If unable to submit an application electronically, an applicant must submit two (2) signed originals of the prescribed application with the Director of the Administrative Office of Illinois Courts at the address listed below:

    Lack of supervision option does not render aggravated speeding law unconstitutional, Illinois Supreme Court rules
    In People v. Rizzo, 2016 IL 118599, the Illinois Supreme Court overturned a circuit court ruling that refusing to allow supervision for aggravated speeding is too harsh a penalty compared to those for other Class A misdemeanors. At issue in Rizzo was whether Illinois' sentencing guidelines for aggravated speeding are unconstitutional. The Unified Code of Corrections did not allow court supervision for those charged with violating Illinois' aggravated speeding law. (That provision has since been amended to allow supervision for some, but not all, drivers charged with aggravated speeding.)

    ISBA to honor Class of 1966 Distinguished Counsellors on Oct. 13
    The Illinois State Bar Association will honor the Class of 1966 Distinguished Counsellors on Thursday, Oct. 13. This title is conferred annually upon those ISBA members who are completing their 50th year of practice. The Board of Governors is pleased to announce the 2016 Class will be honored at a special luncheon on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at the Union League Club. A reception will begin at 11:15 a.m., and lunch is scheduled promptly at noon. Tickets to the luncheon are available and may be purchased online at www.isba.org/distinguishedcounsellorsluncheon.
