Not only will there be warm appetizers, an open bar, and an opportunity to meet young lawyers from across the state, the event benefits a great cause: the Children’s Assistance Fund.
Initially created to assist with the opening of children's waiting rooms in courthouses across the State of Illinois, the IBF/YLD Children's Assistance Fund has since grown, and now provides funding to organizations across the State of Illinois that provide legal assistance to children, maintain children's waiting rooms in courthouses, work to reduce recidivism of juveniles, and/or work to reduce the incidents of domestic violence in families with children.

The following is a transcript from a speech given by Elizabeth Kaveny, President of the Illinois Bar Foundation, during their 18th Annual Gala on October 14, 2016 at the Four Seasons in Chicago.
Good Evening. For those of you that I have not had the chance to meet yet this evening, my name is Elizabeth Kaveny. It is really my honor and fortune to serve as the President of the Board of the Illinois Bar Foundation this year and to welcome all of you to this year’s Gala. What a beautiful night it is.
In 1972, a young man was buried in an unmarked grave in Missouri. His own attorney later added a tombstone which read simply:
“Each era finds an improvement in the law for the benefit of mankind.”

The ISBA Environmental Law Section Council is pleased to invite you to join us to hear Justin DeWitt and Kathryn Pamenter speak at our October 25, 2016, Professional Development Luncheon on the challenges we face regarding lead in water. This panel presentation will include an in-depth look at Senate Bill 550, which requires schools to test for lead in drinking and cooking water sources.

Alexa James, Executive Director of the National Alliance of Mental Illness of Chicago, will be speaking at the meeting.
