The legal practice at the Administrative United States Penitentiary, located in Thomson, Ill., is seeking a senior Consolidated Legal Center (CLC) attorney.
Applicants must possess a J.D. degree, be an active member of the bar (any jurisdiction), and have at least one year post-J.D. legal experience.
Prior experience in correctional law is desired though not required.
Eric Joseph Lieberman, 67 of Galena, died Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at Mercy Medical Center, Dubuque, Iowa.
He was born October 29, 1950, in Chicago to Esther (Kraus) and Archie Lieberman, the noted photojournalist.
He graduated with a law degree from Loyola University in 1978 and practiced law in the Chicago area until 1996, when he became in-house counsel for the software firm First Logic in La Crosse, Wis. The firm was on the verge of bankruptcy until Eric became president. He is fondly remembered by the hundreds of First Logic employees whose jobs were saved and whose lives were improved by his ethics and style of management. Eric was a visionary and was working for the past year to help a crypto currency company navigate the legal system.
The Illinois Supreme Court handed down three opinions on Thursday, May 24. The court upheld the constitutionality of the Vehicle Code’s definition of "low-speed gas bicycle" in People v. Plank, considered the application of the officer suit exception to sovereign immunity in Parmar v. Madigan, and determined whether statutory changes apply retroactively to two Freedom of Information Act requests in Perry v. Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
The Fellows of the Illinois Bar Foundation honored Rick L. Turner, Jr. (Turner & Sackett, LLC) at the DeKalb County Fellows Reception on May 17, 2018, in DeKalb.
New attorneys were admitted to practice in Illinois on May 10, with Illinois Supreme Court and Illinois Appellate Court justices presiding and administering the attorney's oath to 401 new attorneys at five separate locations across the state.
All of the candidates passed the Illinois State Bar Examination and a required ethics examination and were certified by the Supreme Court Committee on Character and Fitness. They bring the total number of licensed attorneys in Illinois to approximately 96,500.
The largest group, 275, was admitted in the First Judicial District during three ceremonies at the James R. Thompson Center Assembly Hall, located at 100 W. Randolph St., in Chicago. Illinois Supreme Court Justice Anne M. Burke presided over the first ceremony, Illinois Appellate Justice Cynthia Y. Cobbs presided over the second ceremony, and Illinois Supreme Court Justice Mary Jane Theis presided over the last ceremony.

Joseph A. "Joe" Morrissey, died Monday, April 2, 2018. He was born August 16, 1929, to William R. and Aileen (Brady) Morrissey
Joe grew up a resilient and entrepreneurial young man during the Great Depression. Although the family had little, they were rich in faith and love.
Joe attended St. Anne Elementary, graduating from Amboy High School in 1947, and St. Ambrose University in 1951. Following college, Joe served 4 years in the U.S. Air Force. After service, Joe studied law at the University of Illinois, obtaining his Juris Doctorate in 1958. Upon graduation, Joe worked in the State Farm claims department until 1964, after which Joe began a private law practice in Rockford, concentrating in personal injury claims for over 50 years.
ISBA President Hon. Russell W. Hartigan (ret.) served as keynote speaker for the LaSalle County Bar Association’s Annual Law Day Dinner on May 3 at Senica’s Deer Park Golf Club in Oglesby.
Hartigan discussed his ties to the Illinois Valley and ISBA member benefits, including Fastcase, free CLE, and the Lawyers’ Assistance Program.
Law Day, which is held on May 1 every year, began in 1958 through a proclamation by President Dwight Eisenhower. It is a day when Americans celebrate their liberties and appreciate the ideals of equality and justice under the law.
