The legal practice at the United States Penitentiary located in Thomson is part of the Consolidated Legal Center (CLC), Federal Medical Center, Rochester, Minnesota. This CLC covers a wide variety of issues focusing on correctional law and litigation, either through administrative or litigation channels and includes such matters as inmate's reasonable access to the courts (through access to legal materials, legal correspondence, and attorney-client visits), conditions of confinement, medical care, diet and religious accommodations, housing assignments, hygiene and sanitation, access to information, and discipline.

Thomas A. Wartowski, 73, died Thursday morning, December 17, 2020, with his adoring wife Peg and son David at his side, and his adoring first wife Anna waiting for him on the other side. His death, from lung cancer, was as peaceful as he had hoped it would be.
John B. Roe, known as Jack, of Grand Detour, Illinois and Holmes Beach, Florida, died November 27, 2020, at the age of 78 from a very rare untreatable form of cancer known as Myelofibrosis.
He enjoyed horse racing, golf, reading and traveling. He attended Oregon, Illinois schools and graduated from Centre College of Kentucky in 1964. He attended American University, George Washington University, with political honors and the University of Illinois Law School 1967. He was elected Ogle County State's Attorney in 1968 and was the youngest state's attorney in Illinois history.
The Illinois Supreme Court has announced that Thirteenth Circuit Judge Eugene P. Daugherity has been assigned as an Appellate Court Justice in the Third District.
Judge Daugherity was assigned to fill the vacancy created by the appointment of Justice Robert E. Carter to the Supreme Court of Illinois effective December 8, 2020. The assignment of Judge Daugherity takes effect on December 8, 2020 and will remain in effect until December 5, 2022.
Gary Garretson peacefully passed away in his sleep Wednesday, November 4, 2020 in Morris, Illinois. Gary was born on April 21, 1952 in Streator, Illinois to Robert and Mary (Kever) Garretson. His family had roots in farming, mining and manufacturing, Gary was blessed with parents who encouraged his love of learning and reading which enabled him to be excel academically. They were also excellent role models whose teachings were deep in Gary's character.

Cheri Nordenberg Greenlee, 71, of Rockford and Anguilla, BWI, lost her battle with cancer on October 6, 2020. She died in her home in Rockford comforted by her husband Ted G. Greenlee, daughter Sarah Greenlee, mother Betty Nordenberg, and her devoted emotional support dog Clark. Cheri was the first born of Reuel and Betty (Johnson) Nordenberg.
