    Illinois Supreme Court to Swear-In New Attorneys at Bar Admission Ceremonies Across the State
    The bar admission ceremonies for the 1,604 new attorneys who passed the July 2024 Bar Exam will be held on Wednesday, November 6, in all five judicial districts of Illinois.  The First Judicial District ceremony sessions will be held in Chicago at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. with Supreme Court Chief Justice Mary Jane Theis, Justice P. Scott Neville, Jr. and Justice Joy V. Cunningham swearing-in candidates.  The Second Judicial District ceremony will be held in Elgin at 10 a.m. with Justice Elizabeth M. Rochford swearing-in candidates.

    Illinois Lawyer Finder Makes Over 1,300 Referrals in October
    The Illinois State Bar Association’s Lawyer Finder Service provides referrals to local lawyers Mondays through Fridays. The Service makes referrals in a number of areas of law. For the month of October, 2024, ISBA helped 1,345 people in need of legal services find lawyers.

    While the HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules went into effect over 20 years ago, lawyers in a variety of different practices representing a wide-range of businesses need to be proficient when advising their clients who may be HIPAA-covered entities or business associates.     Notice of Nomination of ISBA Delegates to the ABA House of Delegates
    At the December 13, 2024, meeting of the ISBA Assembly, four “At-Large” Delegates to the ABA House of Delegates will be elected, two from Cook County and two from the area outside Cook County. The nominees for these positions must be members of the ISBA, in good standing, and from the appropriate area at the time the ABA term commences. The elected delegates will serve for two-year terms commencing June 2025 and will join the ISBA delegation in August at the ABA annual meeting in Toronto.

    New U.S. Bankruptcy Judge in Northern District of Illinois
    Chief Judge Diane S. Sykes of the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Brian Slade to a 14-year term as United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Northern District of Illinois. Mr. Slade succeeds Bankruptcy Judge A. Benjamin Goldgar who retired on August 30, 2024. Mr. Slade will take the oath of office and join the bankruptcy bench in Chicago on November 25, 2024.
