Legislation
The Section Council reviewed 60 bills that may affect their members’ practice area. Highlights of the most recent legislative session include:
- Senate Bill 72 requires prejudgment interest at the rate of six percent from the date the action is filed in personal-injury or wrongful-death cases.
- House Bill 3979 amends the Legal Business Solicitation Act to regulate false or deceptive statements concerning the existence of a settlement fund.
- Senate Bill 74 amends the Code of Civil Procedure to change the process for expert witnesses in civil litigation to make it more like the federal system.
