Legislation
The Section Council reviewed 8 bills that may affect their members’ practice area. Highlights of the most recent legislative session include:
- Senate Bill 72 requires prejudgment interest at the rate of six percent from the date the action is filed in personal-injury or wrongful-death cases.
- Senate Bill 376 is a tort reform bill amending damages and jury instructions for personal injury cases.
- Senate Bill 1815 creates an affidavit of merit certificate before a person can sue a professional such as an engineer, etc.
