Legislation
The Section Council reviewed 161 bills that may affect their members’ practice area. Highlights of the most recent legislative session include:
- House Bill 2449 amends the Counties Code to provide that special meetings of the board must be held when requested by any chair of the board (currently, restricted to chair of the board in counties where they are elected by the voters of the county).
- House Bill 862 prohibits municipalities from collecting a municipal-ordinance debt that is more than seven years old.
- Senate Bill 539 requires persons who lobby officials of counties, municipalities, and townships to register with the secretary of state and submit expenditure disclosures in the same manner as lobbyists working in the Illinois Capitol must do.
